The Crystal Palace was built in 1865 and demolished in 1951. It was a project developed by Thomas Dillen Jones, an English architect who was based on London's Crystal Palace. The Palace was built in granite, iron and glass and was one of the most admired buildings in the city, quite distinctive from the others. Currently in its place is the Super Bock Arena, the former Rosa Mota pavilion, considered national heritage. The place continues to be one of the city's great attractions due mainly to the gardens surrounding the building. The Crystal Palace Gardens are a must-see. Besides being stunning, they have magnificent views of the Douro River and the Atlantic Ocean.
